Millar: We need more for less from Welsh public services

Welsh Conservatives today highlighted the failure of the Welsh Assembly Government to develop world class, citizen centred public services.

Speaking ahead of the party’s Opposition debate in the National Assembly, Shadow Minister for Local Government Darren Millar AM said:

“It is clear that we need to get more for less in terms of Welsh public services over the next few years.

“Labour’s mismanagement of our economy has left our public finances in tatters with a legacy of debt, taxes and waste that will take its toll here in Wales for years to come.

“The Welsh Assembly Government must address waste in public services to ensure that services are delivered more efficiently and collaboratively across the public sector.

“Instead of being Cardiff centred in its approach to service delivery, Ministers should be citizen centred – allowing communities to set their own priorities and meet local needs.

“Instead the Assembly Government is wasting tens of millions every year on unnecessary bureaucracy which could be spent on developing the world class public services that the people of Wales deserve.

“This simply cannot continue. The people of Wales deserve better.”
