Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, said he was pleased that the Welsh Government was willing to explore the Pop-Up Shop innovative as a solution to regenerate towns in Mid and West Wales.
During ministerial questions, Mr George raised concerns that the rapid closure of retail premises in towns across Montgomeryshire was not only bad for the local economy but also depressed local people and visitors.
Commenting, Mr George said:
“The revitalisation of our local town centres is crucial to long-term sustainability of the Mid-Wales economy.
“There is no simple answer to retail regeneration but we must find opportunities and workable solutions tailored to local needs.
“One of the solutions I am championing with local landlords in Montgomeryshire is the Pop-Up Shops scheme which encourages business start-ups to view short-term renting as a viable, interim business model.
“I am pleased that the Regeneration Minister has taken my concerns seriously and is willing to dedicate resources to explore and develop this idea further.”
