Welsh Conservative AM for South Wales East, Mohammad Asghar, has won the ballot of backbench Assembly Members to bring forward a new law.
Mr Asghar, who is also Shadow Minister for Equalities and Sport, will bring forward a Bill designed to make the Welsh Government more accountable in its progress on making the Welsh economy more competitive.
Almost all Conservative AMs entered the ballot, which is an opportunity for AMs to bring forward legislation.
Mohammad Asghar said, “The Welsh economy is at a critical phase, where the Welsh Labour Government’s handling of the economy, its proposals for job creation and measures to attract inward investment are more important than ever.
“I will be putting forward proposals for an Enterprise Bill, which will require the Welsh Government to draw up a strategy for economic development with key targets to achieve.
“Ministers would be required to engage with the business community through the establishment of a new Enterprise Wales Council, an open and transparent body made up of business men and women to advise Ministers on their economic strategy.
“I am delighted to win this ballot and look forward to working closely with employers, investors and other political parties to draw up proposals which can help drive growth in the Welsh economy.”
