Monmouthshire Council YouTubes its budget

People in Monmouthshire can find out about Monmouthshire County Council’s budget proposals by watching the council’s member for finance on YouTube.

Councillor Phil Murphy has been filmed in two short films explaining how the council sets its budget and what it plans to do to meet the major funding pressures it faces.

Councillor Phil Murphy, Cabinet Member for Finance and Performance Improvement said:

“We did this last year and found that it was a good way to supplement the public meetings I presented.  It’s something for those people who can’t get out to meetings or who want to be able to digest the figures and information in their own time.

“By watching the two films we’ve made, people will get a good idea of the pressures we face and what we have to do.  We’d love to hear people’s suggestions and ideas on our proposals.

“One of our values in Monmouthshire is openness and using social media gives us another way of involving citizens in local democracy. We did it all on a phone and a flip cam so the only cost of doing this was our time and we think that it’s an effective way of informing and talking to people.

“As I said last year, this is a budget movie in more ways than one!

“People have busy lives and we hope providing information in this way gives more people a chance to get involved in what’s happening in their communities.

“Our website has lots more information for those who want to find out more.”
