Children from ten schools in Monmouthshire have received a visit from the fabulous Gregory Brothers theatre company. Their performances – centred on recycling and caring for the environment – are based on a simple message that children can absorb and enjoy.
Assisted by props Tidy Ted, Eco Ellie and Spick & Span, Carmarthenshire actors Paul and Adrian Gregory captivated children with their catchy songs and humorous acting while sending a clear message about reducing the use of materials, avoiding litter and recycling wherever possible. This is the first time the duo has performed in the county and their visits created a wave of excitement among pupils. To date, they have made regular appearances in west Wales and along the M4 corridor. Paul Gregory said; “We hope to be invited back and look forward to returning to Monmouthshire”.
Monmouthshire’s cabinet member for county operations, Cllr Bryan Jones said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the performance when I caught the Gregory Brothers at Trellech Primary School. Encouraging children to reduce, reuse and recycle and in turn, those children encouraging friends and family to do likewise can only be a good thing”.
Waste Strategy and Contracts Manager, Rachel Jowitt added: “Theatre performances such as these form an important part of the council’s waste education programme. We use many different ways to communicate with our residents of all ages. The shows prove that learning about rubbish and recycling can be fun as well as effective in getting the message across to children.”
The ten lucky schools that were entertained and educated by the Gregory Brothers were Thornwell Primary, Arch Bishop Rowan Williams Primary, Green Lane Junior, Rogiet Primary, Undy Primary, Our Lady’s St. Michaels Primary, Llantilio Pertholy Primary, Ysgol Gymraeg Y Fenni, Osbaston Primary and Trellech Primary.
Head Teacher of Trellech Primary School, Stephen King said: “It was evident that the children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and the Gregory Brothers conveyed a powerful message about caring for the environment”.
