Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, will lead a debate in Parliament this Wednesday (4.30pm) on the effects of the proposed ‘Mid-Wales Connection Project’ on Montgomeryshire.
Glyn Davies called the debate to highlight to the Coalition Government the consequences for mid-Wales of the enormous scale of the project, and explain why it should not go ahead.
Commenting before speaking in the debate Glyn Davies, who has opposed this development since it was first mooted in 2005, said:
“My main aim in raising this debate at Westminster on the ‘Mid Wales Connection Project’ is to highlight just how great the impact of this appalling project will be.”
“I have always accepted that onshore wind farms have a role as part of the ‘UK energy mix’ and that Montgomeryshire would play its part in this, but what is currently proposed is on a totally inappropriate scale which would render huge damage to the lives of the population of Mid Wales.”
“The National Grid proposal is for a 40 km cable, most of which would be carried on 150ft steel towers from Shropshire to Cefn Coch, but would also mean over 500 new wind turbines and perhaps 100 miles of 132kv cable criss crossing Montgomeryshire. I do not believe those behind the project have been open about what this all means and it’s crucial that the scale of this horrendous project is widely known.”
