Montgomeryshire MP Welcomes Big Fall in Local Unemployment

Glyn Davies MPGlyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, has welcomed today’s unemployment figures, which are very good news for Montgomeryshire.

Figures released today (18th December) by the Office for National Statistics show that unemployment nationally has fallen to its lowest figure since 2009, at 7.4%. Today’s figures also show that unemployment in Montgomeryshire stands at 2.2% of the total workforce.

Commenting on the figures, Glyn Davies MP said;

“Over the last year, unemployment in Montgomeryshire has fallen from 903 to 681, just 2.2% of the workforce. It has fallen by 32 between October and November, normally a period when seasonal factors produce an increase. The reduction over the last 12 months is dramatic, and is incredibly good news for our local economy. Whenever any job is lost it delivers a huge blow to the individual affected. The creation of new job opportunities in our rapidly changing world is one of the greatest responsibilities of Government.

“The period since the 2010 General election has been a huge challenge to Government in taking difficult decisions to begin the work of restoring Britain’s finances, after the catastrophic financial and economic mess inherited from the outgoing Government. It is great news that the sacrifices and hard work of British people are paying off – and nowhere more than in Montgomeryshire. But it’s important that the local Council and the Welsh Government don’t relax in its drive to create even more new jobs.

“Today’s unemployment figures are a welcome early Christmas present for Montgomeryshire”
