More than £1 million secured for affordable housing in Denbighshire

Denbighshire County Council has secured £1.1 million of Welsh Assembly Government funding to provide affordable housing within the county.

Taylor Wimpey have developed properties at Glasdir, Ruthin and this funding announcement has allowed Denbighshire County Council to buy properties that will be offered as affordable housing. The properties are a mixture of rent/purchase and priority will be given to those with a local connection.

People interested in buying properties for the first time can take advantage of the Homebuy scheme, which allows ten homes to be brought from the open market across Denbighshire.  The scheme is aimed at first time buyers and provides a loan of around 30% of the cost of buying a suitable property.  Many applicants use the money as a deposit and it is not repayable until the property is subsequently resold.  No rent is payable on the homebuy loan provided.

Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration and Tourism, said: “This is an exciting development that will allow local people that first vital step on the property ladder.

“Many first time buyers want to buy a property in the own community and the council is committed to making sure that a percentage of properties being built in the county are affordable housing.

“The Glasdir development has already seen local people moving into properties and we hope that this latest funding announcement will make dreams come true for more local families.”

Those interested in either the affordable homes at Glasdir or homebuy should contact the Affordable Housing Team on 0345 2303140.  Applicants will need to be registered on the low cost homeownership list to be considered.
