More than 30 arrests in capital day of action

Police in Cardiff have arrested more than 30 people in a city-wide day of action.

The majority of those arrested were wanted for drug-related offences but others were also taken into custody for theft, money laundering and burglary.

Speaking during Friday’s 4411 Operation, Chief Inspector Lian Penhale said: “Today we have mostly acted upon information received from the community and in a lot of cases the information they have given us has been spot on.

“People who have contacted us know who they are and I wish to offer my sincere thanks.”

One of the first warrants this morning was carried out in Tudor Street, Canton, where officers recovered high value mountain bikes and designer clothes. A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft.

Elsewhere in the city two cannabis factories were found in Grangetown in Dinas Street and Paget Street.

More than 300 plants were found in the first house where a 25-year-old man was arrested while attempting to leave through a back gate.

Engineers who were called to make the property safe described the factory, and it wiring, as posing a real danger to the public.

Around 120 plants were discovered shortly after in an industrial unit off Paget Street.

CI Penhale added: “These operations take place once a month and it gives us an opportunity to dedicate resources to premises where we have information criminality is taken place.

“Last year we saw more than 4400 fewer victims of crime in Cardiff so the city is getting safer but we can’t get complacent.

“We will keep targeting those we are committing crime that effect our communities whether it is stealing mountain bikes, dealing crack cocaine or putting lives at risk with drugs factories.

“I hope this will reassure the community that officers are out on the streets being proactive and arresting criminals in order to keep Cardiff safe.”

Other warrants were carried out in Cathays, Llanedeyrn, Fairwater and Rumney.
