MP give railway fencing repair promise

Conservative Member of Parliament for Clwyd West, David Jones, today met senior executives of Network Rail at Westminster to discuss the condition of the railway fencing at Old Colwyn.

In certain locations, the fencing has been pulled down or is completely missing and residents are concerned that a serious accident, or even a fatality, may be caused.

David Jones said:

“I showed the Network Rail representatives photographs of the defective fencing taken by local freelance photographer, Steve Lewis. They were immediately concerned and assured me that repairs would be carried out as a matter of priority.

“The did tell me, however, that the fence had been inspected in the past and that it has clearly been pulled down by individuals who are using the railway track as a short cut.

“Anyone damaging railway fencing and walking on the line is not only endangering his own life, but those of other people, as well as committing a criminal offence.

“I strongly recommend that if anyone sees trespassers on the railway line, they contact the British Transport Police immediately.”
