The Government announced in June 2013 that it was taking forward the Flood Reinsurance Scheme (Flood Re) as a preferred approach to addressing the availability and affordability of flood insurance.
Under this scheme, annual premiums will be capped and payouts for flood damage will come from a central pool of money. The scheme covers 350,000 households which the Environment Agency says are at high risk of flooding.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is conducting a consultation in which they are seeking views on the regulations.
Roger Williams, Lib Dem MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, is encouraging everyone to make a contribution to this consultation. You can give your views through the following website: https://consult.defra.gov.uk/flooding/floodreinsurancescheme/
Commenting, Roger Williams MP said:
“This is particularly important as it will directly affect what you will pay for your home insurance in the future. I am concerned that people who run businesses from their home are included and that the proposal to exclude properties in the Council Bands H and I in Wales is properly scrutinised.”
