My Welsh Icons: David Garland Jones – actor, thinker, netcaster.

9222_101789416504700_100000209273564_50911_2582042_nDavid Garland Jones was born in Goytre near Port Talbot on August 5, 1962 – the day Marilyn Monroe died. He is one of the great quinvirate of actors from that area: Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins, Michael Sheen and Ivor Emmanuel being the others.

He studied at the Welsh College Of Music and Drama (in the days before it was Royal) and has performed on stages all over the UK, including several seasons with the reknowned Sutton Coldfield rep.

Latterly he has turned his attention to attracting an online world-wide audience with his pioneering series – David Garland Jones – An Actor Reflects. David’s broadcasts can be found at www.youtube.com/davidgarlandjones.

My Welsh place:

Chapter Arts Centre – where I performed many times during the great experimental theatre era of the 80s, when nudity and chainsaws were de rigeur. Watch David at Chapter.

My Welsh taste:

The sweat on a Katherine Jenkins’ lower back after a vigorous concert. Failing that, the first cigarette of the day. Watch David’s cigarette trick.

My Welsh sound:

The sound of a train taking me down the valley to Cardiff for a life-changing audition. David is Damian Dark.

My Welsh writer:

The great Anglo-Welsh poet and author – Iain Tudor Swain. David reflects on the work of his friend Iain Tudor Swain

My Welsh actor:

Certainly not Jeffrey Love. I would have to say (and I hope this isn’t being too immodest) that it’s me, David Garland Jones. David’s small parts.

My Welsh Icon.

Internet pioneer, actor, guru, raconteur, poet, orator, juggler and flautist… There can only be one – David Garland Jones.
