Fishguard Arts Society has won a category in a national arts competition.
‘Express Yourself” was a Welsh Libraries competition which ran in Autumn 2009.
It encouraged people of all ages to show off their creative talents, on the theme of ‘Libraries’ and submit entries that would inspire other people to visit a library.
There were three categories: Creative Writing, Visual Arts, Short Film/Audio, with poems, short stories, paintings, photos and films.
The winners came from various categories: primary and secondary school, Individual/open and Community/voluntary group
A travelling exhibition of the national prize winning entries is currently being hosted at the Haverfordwest library gallery until next Wednesday, 26th May.
At the exhibition’s launch last week, four winners from Pembrokeshire were presented with certificates having already received £50 in shopping vouchers.
The presentations were made by Pembrokeshire County Councillor Huw George and among the recipients was Fishguard Arts Society, represented by Alan and Ruth Jowett. Alan is the Society’s treasurer.
They were the winners in the Community/Voluntary Group category with their entry ‘Screen Shots for The Big Draw’.
Many of the group members are regular users of Fishguard Library which has an excellent Arts & Crafts section.
As a group they also regularly use Fishguard Library Gallery, for exhibitions to display their work to the local community (including the screen which arose from the Big Draw workshops that they held)
Fishguard Library is located on the first floor of the Town Hall on The Square.
