National Eisteddfod Closing Dates Fast Approaching

There’s only a few days to go for anyone wishing to compete in the drama composition competitions at the Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod, as every entry must reach the National Eisteddfod Organiser by 31 January.

The adjudicators of both competitions will choose one of the winning compositions to receive the Drama Medal, presented in memory of Urien Wiliam by his wife, Eiryth, and children, Hywel, Sioned and Steffan.

Promoting new writing is one of the aims of the National Eisteddfod and the professional drama companies, and therefore, scripts are sent to Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru (the National Welsh Language Touring Theatre Company), which distributes them to the other professional Welsh language companies.

31 January is also the closing date for the Sir T H Parry Williams Memorial Medal and the Science and Technology Medal.

The Sir T H Parry Williams Memorial Medal is presented annually to an individual who has worked tirelessly to help young people in their local community for many years, making a real difference to their lives.  The Medal is presented in memory of Sir T H Parry Williams, a great supporter of the Eisteddfod for many years.

If you wish to nominate someone for the Medal, please contact Eisteddfod Chief Executive, Elfed Roberts, on 0845 4090 300, or email [email protected].

The Science and Technology Medal is an opportunity to honour individuals who have contributed extensively in the area of Science and Technology through the medium of Welsh.  The nomination form is available to download from the Eisteddfod website – www.eisteddfod.org.uk – or send an email to [email protected].

14 February is the next closing date for the diary, when entries for the visual arts open exhibition must reach the Eisteddfod office.  Details on these and all other competitions are available on the Eisteddfod website.

The National Eisteddfod festival attracts 150,000 – 160,000 visitors annually, and is held in north and south Wales alternately.  Entry to all festival activities is free for the price of a daily Maes ticket.
