National recognition for Council team

Swansea Council’s Corporate Building Services is celebrating being named as a finalist in a prestigious national award.

The Council team – responsible for maintaining and developing public buildings, schools and council houses – was recognised in the annual Association for Public Service Excellence Awards.

Corporate Building Services was named as a finalist in the Most Improved Performer category in Building Maintenance. This is the third time the Council has been recognised for work in this area.

The honour recognised three years of improvements in productivity, reductions in sickness absence, attainment of investors in people and high levels of customer satisfaction.

Cllr Stuart Rice, Swansea Council Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “I’m proud of the achievements of the team and it’s good to see them get the recognition that they deserve.”

Martin Nicholls, Swansea Council’s Head of Corporate Building and Property Services, said: “It is great to be recognised by APSE for the continual improved performance that Corporate Building Services has achieved over a number of years. This demonstrates the commitment our staff have to developing an efficient and effective organisation.”

APSE is the national specialist in Local Authority frontline services and the awards celebrate the best performers from local Councils across the country in frontline public services and those services that have made the most improvement on performance.

The recognition for Corporate Building Services is based on a range of key national performance data that is submitted and compared with all providers across the UK and validated by APSE to ensure their accuracy.

These included demonstrable improvement in productivity, reductions in sickness absence, attainment of investors in people and high levels of customer satisfaction.

Mark Bramah, APSE’s Assistant Chief Executive, said:

“The importance of local Councils demonstrating that they are providing high quality and cost effective services is greater now than ever before.

“Winning an award is national recognition of the efforts made by the frontline staff and managers in delivering highly valued public services.”
