National Tree Week in Conwy

Join the National Tree Week celebrations at Bodlondeb Park and Local Nature Reserve on Saturday 27th November 2010.

A range of activities including hedge and tree planting, bird box building and guided walks will be taking place from 10.30am until 2.30pm and local Environmental Artist, Tim Pugh will be inviting families to join him in a spot of tree dressing.

First organised in 1975, National Tree Week is UK’s largest tree celebration annually launching the start of the winter tree planting season.

National Tree Week is a great chance for communities to do something positive for their local woodland, park or nature reserve.  Each year, Tree Council member organisations such as local authorities, schools, community groups and many others, support the initiative by setting up accessible events, which year on year sees a ¼ million people to get their hands dirty and together plant around million trees.

Although it may seem that there are plenty of trees, only 14% of the land of Wales is covered by woodland, much less than in most European countries. Trees are lost every year for a whole host of reasons, but it is vital that large numbers are planted and looked after.

Cllr Joan Vaughan, Chair of the Bodlondeb Local Nature Reserve Management Group said, “The aim of National Tree Week is to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining and protecting the trees in our communities. I would urge everyone to come along to Bodlondeb on Saturday to join in the activities and get their hands dirty.”

Join the National tree Week activities at Bodlondeb, Conwy on Saturday 27th November between 10.30-2.30pm.  All activities are free of charge.
