Neath looking to consolidate at the top

Principality Premiership leaders Neath can consolidate their position when they play Bedwas at The Gnoll on Tuesday evening (KO 7.15pm).

Bedwas are never to be under-rated and they appear to be in good form at the moment. Although they lost 24-34 in the Swalec Cup to Cardiff on Saturday, the Bridge Field side bettered the capital city side in the League the previous week so Neath will need to be at their best.

Neath’s team will not be finalised until after training on Monday evening but they have named a preliminary squad from which the final XV will be determined.

Neath Head Coach Patrick Horgan, said: “Although we are top of the League, we are not taking anything for granted as Bedwas have shown in the past that they have the capacity to beat anyone in this League and in players like our old No.8 Hywel Jenkins and Deri Mattravers they have some top performers.

“We were very pleased by the way we saw off Swansea last time out. Even with eight players on our injured list and not available to us, we packed too much power for them but we need to repeat the intensity and sharpness of that effort.

“There is still a long way to go in this League campaign and this week’s games against Bedwas then Pontypridd on Saturday will be absolutely key to our prospects.”

Bedwas will scrap for everything and try to stop us playing. Our boys have worked hard to get where we are and, if we can maintain our approach, we will deserve success and we are looking forward to it.”
