NEETs rise exposes Wales’ lost generation

Responding to today’s figures which show almost 13% of 16 to 18-year-olds in Wales are not in education, employment or training, Shadow Education Minister Paul Davies AM said:

“These figures highlight a lost generation of wasted talent which has developed under Labour and Plaid Cymru.

“Ministers failed to seize the opportunity of improving the NEETs problem before the recession. There is little hope of matters improving with the Welsh economy in an increasingly fragile state during the downturn.

“The chances of these figures improving are made harder as the Assembly Government seeks to cut further education funding, with fewer job opportunities, and with more people seeking work and training.”
