A campaign to improve road safety around the new medical centre in Abergele has paid off after Conwy County Borough Council agreed to introduce a 40mph speed limit.
The speed limit on the busy Abergele to Llanddulas road has remained at 60mph since the Gwrych Medical Centre was built. After a long campaign lead by Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar, the Council have now reduced the speed limit to 40mph to improve road and pedestrian safety in the area.
Darren said:
“I’ve been calling on the Council to introduce this speed limit for some time and I’m glad our hard work has finally paid off. Hopefully this will put the brakes on speeding in the area.
“The area around the medical centre should be much safer now, especially for those who choose to walk to the centre for work and medical appointments.”
He added, “It should not have taken so long for the speed limit to be reduced and it is regrettable that the local authority did not have the foresight to do it prior to the medical centre being opened.”
