New Bus Service – Corwen & Llyn Brenig

Denbighshire County Council, in partnership Cadwyn Clwyd, is pleased to announce a new bus service for the south of the County.

The new service, operated by Rogers Coaches, will take in the scenic route from Corwen to Llyn Brenig and Alwen through the picturesque villages of Betws Gwerfil Goch, Melin-y-Wig, Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr and Cerrigydrudion, offering passengers access to the countryside without using the car.

Buses for Llyn Brenig will depart from Corwen Car Park at 10am and 3.45pm every day with an extra bus at 12.25pm on a Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday.  Return journeys from Llyn Brenig, Alwen and Clocaenog Forest depart at 11.15am and 4.40pm everyday with an extra bus leaving at 1.30pm on a Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday.

Additionally, the bus service will provide a vital link for residents living in the upper reaches of Corwen into the town centre.  Buses operate Monday to Saturday from Uwch-y-Dre, Penybryn and Bryn Llewelyn departing at 9.50am, 12:15pm (Saturdays only) and 3.35pm, with return journeys from Corwen Car Park at 12.10pm, 2.35pm (Saturdays only) and 5.35pm, giving ample time for shopping or doctors visits and connections with main line bus services.

The new bus service will provide increased access to the countryside for people who do not use cars or who wish to leave them at home, which will minimise environmental impact of increasing leisure travel and reduce congestion in tourist areas. The aim is to encourage inclusive and sustainable access to rural communities and leisure destinations.

Conwy and Denbighshire County Council’s Joint Head of Highways & Infrastructure said “We have received several calls from residents in this part of Corwen for a bus service into the town centre and we are delighted to help out.  Some residents find it difficult to walk up and down the hill in the Uwch-y-Dre and Penybryn areas.  Now, they can take advantage of the new bus service and with hail-and-ride, the driver will stop wherever it is safe for him to do so. Passengers should give a clear indication that they wish the bus to stop.  We hope that people will be encouraged to leave their cars at home and enjoy the bus ride as it meanders through the foothills of Llyn Brenig and Alwen.”

Eric Rogers of Rogers Coaches added “We are pleased to welcome passengers on the new route. The new service has a lot of potential as a tourist route, as well as providing a valuable service for local residents.”
