New Cardiff City Football Club ‘Cop Trumps’ Launched

South Wales Police has proudly teamed up with Cardiff City FC to launch a new youth engagement initiative.

Cop Trumps is collector card based idea featuring Cardiff City players and a series of messages about online safety, personal safety, keeping healthy and being a good person.

The cards form part of a game with each player being rated on stats such as height, international caps, and career goals.

They are good way to engage primary school pupils about crime prevention issues, while encouraging them to take part in sport and eating healthy foods.

PCSO Chris Leach, from Fairwater Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:

“The cards have already generated a lot of interest and excitement. All the schools have been visited and the pupils are very enthusiastic.

“We are hoping this project will increase engagement with local officers. The cards contain important information about keeping safe and healthy and having the backing of our local Premier League stars will certainly help us get the messages across.

“We are grateful to Cardiff City for funding which will hopefully be a fantastic initiative between the club, ourselves and the community.”

Pupils from Whitchurch Primary School, Gabalfa Primary School, and Fairwater Primary School, will have the chance to the collect the cards of which 500 complete sets have been produced.

The cards will be issued for good behaviour and by speaking to local PCSOs.
To kick off the project, some lucky pupils from each of the schools recently attended Cardiff City home game against Norwich where they got their hands on the very first complete sets of cards.

Cardiff City Marketing Executive James Kerr said: “As a club we are delighted to be involved in such an important youth engagement initiative.  It’s great to see such a positive response as promoting these important messages is something we feel very strongly about.”
