New leaflets and posters for ‘Report Hate’ campaign

Today the ‘Report Hate’ Safer Wales campaign got a kick start with the delivery of 25,000 leaflets and 1,000 posters.

Sponsored by Airwave, the leading provider of critical voice and data communications to public service organisations in Great Britain, the leaflets and posters will be displayed in public places (libraries, community centres, places of worship and doctors surgeries) to raise awareness of the need for victims of hate crime to come forward to the authorities and report the crime.

Mark Williams, Project Manager Anti-hate Crime, Safer Wales says: “’Report Hate’ Safer Wales campaign has been built in partnership with the Welsh police forces for the community. The leaflets and posters will be used by community members, including those with some visual impairment.”

Mark went on to say that research shows that only one in four cases of homophobic and racist hate crime, and only one in ten cases of disability related hate crime are reported. “With this sponsorship we will be able to reach more people and make a difference to encourage victims to come forward.”

Gwyn Thomas, Chief Superintendent, Dyfed Powys Police says: “We have worked with Safer Wales for many years and are strong supporters of the Report Hate campaign. Providing a secure and confidential reporting system forms an integral part of our community initiatives.”

Euros Evans, chief technology officer at Airwave went on to say that “We are proud to support a number of initiatives which are designed to give something back to the wider community. Working in close collaboration with the Welsh Police, we fully support the initiatives of Safer Wales and in particular the ‘Report Hate’ campaign.”
