Nearly £3,000 has been invested in eight community notice boards in the Mawddwy Community Council area following support by several individuals and groups who were keen to communicate information and promote local events to residents and visitors.
This follows discussions by Mawddwy Community Council back in 2008 when it was decided to raise funds towards the facility. The notice boards have been placed at the following sites:
- Dinas Mawddwy – village hall
- Minllyn – bus stop
- Mallwyd – near the Brigands Inn
- Aberangell – bus stop
- Llanymawddwy – car park
- Bwlch yr Oerddrws – car park
- Bwlch y Groes – car park
- Blaen Cywarch – car park
A total of £2,946 of funding has been granted from the following sources – Gwynedd Improvement Fund £1,482; Snowdonia National Park’s sustainable development fund (CAE) £999 through the Mawddwy Regeneration Group; Snowdonia National Park’s Education and Communications Department £319; Mawddwy Community Council £164.
The purpose of the notice boards are to provide information and promote events organised by various groups and societies and others who wish to provide a service in the area, or to publicise events and services which will have an impact on the area. The area falls into the National Park and straddles the Gwynedd–Powys border.
The notice boards were unveiled by Councillor Dyfed Edwards, leader of Gwynedd Council last week. He said: “Gwynedd Council is proud to support the Mawddwy notice boards scheme through the Gwynedd Improvement Fund as it will improve communication locally with the potential to ensure the area thrives and is sustainable for the future.”
