Second ‘shout’ in three days for RNLI Port Talbot

RNLI Port Talbot lifeboat was called out at 17:24 on Saturday 19 February, for the second time in three days, again in horrendous conditions. The callout was requested to aid the RNLI Porthcawl lifeboat in a search for two missing or overdue surfers at Rest Bay, Porthcawl.

High spring tides with heavy swells up to two metres high and banks of thick sea mist gave zero visibility at times.

RNLI Porthcawl inshore lifeboat had searched for a short while and had found nothing, so RNLI Port Talbot inshore lifeboat was asked to assist. Helicopter Rescue 169 from Chivenor was also on scene, as were the Porthcawl and Port Talbot Coastguard.

A thorough search was carried out, nothing was found and there were no further reports of anyone missing, so due to the weather conditions the search was called off. With conditions as bad as they were, the RNLI Port Talbot lifeboat was recovered at Porthcawl and transported back to station.
