The New Quay RNLI inshore lifeboat launched at the request of the Coastguard on Friday morning , October 29th, to assist a tender with engine failure off New Quay head.
Called out at 11.50am, the inshore lifeboat was crewed by Ben Billingham, Station Mechanic, on the helm and volunteer crewman Tim Harrison. The sea, in the lee of the head, was fairly calm but an offshore wind approaching thirty miles an hour made conditions challenging. A tow rope was promptly secured and the tender with its two crew on board was brought back safely to New Quay harbour.
Lifeboat Operations Manager, Roger Couch, said:
“The speedy rescue highlighted once again the advantage of having lifeboats stationed in the village crewed by well trained and well motivated volunteers’.
