The New Year will welcome in a further phase of the improvements being undertaken on Rhyl‘s promenade.
In the second week of January, work will start on removing the rusting canopy over the car park pedestrian entrance on the village and tidying up the area. Also work will begin on demolishing one of the units and lowering the splash wall to the rear of the area to the same height as those either side of it.
It is hoped that in time there may be access to the beach from the Village area but current studies on the sea defences of Rhyl need to be completed prior to such a bold step being taken.
The works are scheduled to last 11 weeks.
In 2008 Denbighshire secured funds from the Welsh Assembly Government to dismantle the station on the children’s village.
The Welsh Assembly Government has again been pleased to financially support these ongoing improvements. A masterplan for the promenade was presented to the community and visitors to Rhyl this summer and officers were on hand to explain that as each section of the promenade secures funds any new designs or plans will be on public display.
However, the current work on the village is focusing on removing dilapidated structures and no new buildings will be appearing – the main focus for the future of the promenade is to open it up by creating space, an attractive place to walk and visit and improve the access and views to the beach and sea.
