North Cornelly Family Pay Tribute to their Son Jeremy (Gumby) Brooke, Killed in Transkei, South Africa

Jeremy Brooke North CornellyThe family of 32 year old Jeremy Brookewho was shot to both the chest and neck area, after the property in which he and friends were staying in was burgled, would like to issue the following statement following the death of their son in Transkei South Africa on 21st February 2014.
 
“Jeremy loved South Africa and it is regretful that such senseless and criminal violence is robbing the country of so many valuable, proud citizens.

“Shocked as we are, we would like to express our gratitude for the support we have received from both the South African police and the Australian and British High Commissions and would like to thank them for the role they played and the assistance they provided at this very difficult time.

“Jeremy attended Durban Prep School before going on to Weston Agricultural College where his passion for nature was further nurtured.

“On leaving school, he travelled extensively; funding trips and dreams through stints of work locally, including at Sony in Bridgend, the local re-cycling plant, and in farming.

“This included a period with Hulett-Tongaat at Umhlanga Rocks with a course designed for farmers sons where he learnt to build, basic electrical, plumbing and welding skills, as well as how to strip and rebuild the engine of the little Nissan 1400 bakkie, his dream car. All skills which stood him in good stead for the rest of his too short life.

“Jeremy was also registered Field Guide, PADI Master Diver, Rescuer and Instructor, Skipper and self qualified as a diesel mechanic which took him to the Philippines last year to work on the set of a TV series.

“Jeremy is survived by his mother, Marian, sister Bronwen and brother-in-law Alan niece, Brooke and brothers Michael and Steven, who all live in the UK, and in South Africa, by his sister Sarah and by all his nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

“His family and many friends are devastated by the loss of one who, with his passion for life and minutiae, enriched their lives by his very being.”

South Wales Police has appointed a specially trained family liaison officer who is supporting Jeremy ’s family who live in North Cornelly.

South African Police have arrested five men in connection with the incident.
