North Wales high growth businesses pilot to benefit Wrexham

A £2milion Welsh Government project which will target high growth business ventures in North Wales represents an ‘entirely new approach’ to ‘promoting business growth and Jobs’ and could help firms in Wrexham, AM Lesley Griffiths believes.

The Welsh Government recently announced it is piloting one of four projects targeting ‘High Potential Starts’ in North Wales. The project has recently been given £2million in Welsh Government funds with the aim of creating upwards of 480 well -paid jobs and a  combined turnover of £36million across Wales over a three-year period

Bangor based PERA Cymru will deliver a service across North Wales, working with businesses in the digital, environmental, energy, health, biosciences, advanced engineering and manufacturing sectors.

Alongside three other Pilots projects across Wales, PERA will work with organisations such as the Welsh Government, Higher Education Institutions, financial institutions, business networks, industry and local authorities to identify and support entrepreneurs and young businesses with high growth potential.

These ‘high potential starts’ will be provided with packages of tailored business support designed to meet the needs of each business.

The service, is funded jointly by the Labour Welsh Government and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), begins this month and will run until 31st December 2014.

Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths said:

“This represents an entirely new approach to supporting and promoting business growth and jobs in Wales.

“Despite the financial climate, the Welsh Government continues to explore new ways in which the public and private sector can work in partnership to help start-ups grow into sustainable, successful businesses.

“PERA Cymru will identify 12 ‘high potential starts’, companies that are looking to set up or have been trading for under three years.

“As a principle centre of population and business in North Wales, Wrexham is home to many start-ups each year. It is therefore vital Wrexham firms know of this project. I encourage young companies in the area to look into this scheme and make their interest known to PERA Cymru.”
