North Wales Neo-Natal Care Should be in Boddelwyddan, Says AM

Ann Jones AMA panel will recommend the site of the new Sub-Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre (SuRNICC) by the 31st March. Vale of Clwyd AM, Ann Jones, has used the announcement to reaffirm her position that the new site should be established at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan.

Mrs Jones said:

“I am pleased to see the uncertainty surrounding neo-natal care in north Wales will be coming to an end very soon.

“I feel that the most sensible option is for Centre to be in Bodelwyddan –  given the excellent accommodation for families of sick babies provided by Ty Croeso Dawn Elizabeth House; the accessibility of the hospital from the A55; and its location in the heart of North Wales.

“I intend to press my views to the review panel”.

The Panel will undertake an engagement programme with all relevant stakeholders including NHS staff, patient groups and other stakeholders in North Wales who may be affected by the decision, in line with the process followed by the Royal College in its initial review of neonatal services.

The final decision will be taken by the First Minister, Carwyn Jones AM.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) has endorsed the new model of delivery for intensive neo-natal care.
