Nothing Fishy at the Chippies

fishandchipsDenbighshire Trading Standards have been out  in the county sampling fish bought from fish and chip shops.

All of the outlets where a sample was taken were found to have supplied the species of fish requested.

Emlyn Jones, Denbighshire’s Public Protection Manager, said “It is very pleasing to see full compliance from the local fish and chip shops.  Each outlet was asked for a specific species of fish, such as cod or haddock, these were analysed and on each occasion it was found to be the correct species.

“Whilst this exercise has been a success we shall of course continue to monitor compliance with the legislative requirements for the description of food County wide. We also provide advice and guidance to businesses on how to ensure their suppliers are reputable and what checks should be made on the stock they receive”

Guidance is available on the Council’s website for any Denbighshire businesses wanting further advice on food issues.  Anyone with information concerning food descriptions or labelling can report that to trading standards officers through the Council’s website or via Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 08454 04 05 06 or 08454 04 05 05 for the Welsh language service.
