One man and his dog cut off by the tide rescued by New Quay inshore lifeboat

Yesterday afternoon (Thursday 30th) the volunteer inshore lifeboat crew launched to assist a man and his dog cut off by the tide near New Quay lifeboat station.

Roger Couch, New Quay Lifeboat Operations Manager, and Ben Billingham, station mechanic spotted a man and his dog cut off by the tide while walking along the rocks next to the lifeboat station. After observing him for 5 minutes they realised he would not be unable to make his way back to the beach safety. The inshore lifeboat was immediately launched to assist the pair.

The casualty was fairly close to the lifeboat station and it was established that he needed assistance to get off the rocks as the tide had come in around him and his pet. The casualty had miss read the tide table and was caught out by the rising tide.

Station mechanic, Ben Billingham said:

‘Even though it was a quick service, only lasting 15 minutes, skills and local knowledge were put the test after a relatively quiet year. The RNLI advise anyone who is walking along the sea shore to double check the tide table just to be on the safe side’.
