Only Men Aloud Come to Treorchy

In just a few days Treorchy’s very own Park and Dare Theatre will play host to the multi award winning choir, Only Men Aloud (OMA).

Treorchy is renowned for its musical talent and is pleased to welcome the hit artists to the Valley of Song.

South Wales’ Only Men Aloud! – A 20-strong male choral group – came to prominence in 2008 with their win on the BBC’s reality talent show Last Choir Standing. Since then the signing sensation have taken audiences by storm across the UK and beyond.

The special concert will take place this Saturday (27th August) at 7.30pm and promises to be an intimate concert in the heart of this world famous musical town.

The boys will be performing the evening show at the Park & Dare Theatre following a hugely successful year in which they won the NS&I Album of the Year category at the Classical Brit Awards for their second album, Band of Brothers, which reached No. 1 in the Classical Charts. They appeared on prime time TV on Christmas Day as guests on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special, and enjoyed a sell-out tour of the UK. Last September they took to the stage of the Millennium Stadium with Dame Shirley Bassey to launch the Ryder Cup, and performed before HM the Queen at the recent State Opening of the National Assembly in Cardiff Bay.

OMA founder and Music Director Tim Rhys-Evans said: “We are really looking forward to singing in the Park & Dare Theatre. We regularly play the larger towns and cities in the UK, so this summer we’re getting out on the road to give fans throughout Wales the opportunity to see us close to home. Treorchy promises to be a great show, and we’ll have some special guests there to share the stage with us.”

The Park & Dare Theatre has been the chosen venue for various top artists over its 98 years and is delighted to host this concert ahead of its centenary celebrations in 2013.

Councillor Robert Bevan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “Wales is recognised as the land of song and nowhere is this better represented than in the valleys of Rhondda Cynon Taf. That is why it is so apt that this award winning choir has chosen one of our celebrated venues to host their concert. We are pleased to welcome the boys to Treorchy and I am sure that the audience will not only enjoy the concert but the beautiful setting of the Park & Dare Theatre in Treorchy.”

Tickets cost £25 and are available by calling the RCT Box Office on 08000 147111 or by visiting www.rct-arts.co.uk.
