Operation Crevitz to continue in Pwllheli and Porthmadog

An operation aimed at tackling alcohol-related anti-social behaviour in the Pwllheli and Porthmadog district has been so successful it is set to continue for a further six weeks.

Operation Crevitz, which began in February for an initial period of six weeks, has been extended due to it’s success as officers have been seizing alcohol from youngsters as well as sending letters out to the parents of those concerned, informing them of their children’s behaviour.

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Steve Edge said: “Over the initial period between February 5th and March 20th, there has been a reduction of 26% in the number of anti social behaviour related calls compared to last year.

“This is a great achievement however we are not complacent. Operation Crevitz is continuing and we hope by engaging with parents, we will continue to reduce incidents of alcohol related anti social behaviour in the area.

He added: “Groups of youths engaging in this type of anti-social activity can cause concern for residents; however we want to reduce this and provide reassurance that this type of behaviour is not acceptable.”

One parent from the Porthmadog area who does not wished to be named said: “I am very impressed at how officers are dealing with anti-social behaviour in the area, and since the intervention of the local neighbourhood policing team with my son, I have seen a marked improvement in his behaviour.

“He is spending his time a lot more constructively, and has got himself a weekend job. I am very grateful to the local policing team for the time and effort they have put in.”

Anyone with information regarding the supply of alcohol to under-aged youngsters is asked to contact a member of the local Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101, or 0845 607 1001 (Welsh line) or 0845 607 1002 (English line).
