Shadow Minister for Heritage & Equality Mohammad Asghar has questioned whether enough is being done to actively promote Wales to external markets.
Questioning the First Minister on Tuesday, Mr Asghar highlighted “Wales’ lack of representation at the recent World Travel Market in London”.
The South Wales East AM noted how the event “attracted almost 27,000 visitors” and “included main stallholders representing the likes of Scotland, London and Yorkshire; and exhibiting partners promoting destinations from Guernsey to Kent to Fife”.
Mr Asghar also drew the First Minister’s attention to recent comments from the Federation of Small Businesses which highlighted a “real failure” to “brand and market Wales effectively as a tourist destination”.
He asked the First Minister whether Visit Wales and the Assembly Government are doing enough to promote Wales to “key and potentially lucrative overseas … markets”
After the exchange, Mr Asghar said: “To build on the momentum of the Ryder Cup, every possible opportunity must be seized to promote Wales to external markets”.
