Park and ride plan for Barry Dock station

Thanks to £40,000 funding from the South East Wales Transport Alliance (Sewta) and the Vale of Glamorgan Council, outline design work will be undertaken for proposed park and ride facilities for Barry Dock rail station.

Welcomed by Cllr Jeffrey James, the cabinet member for planning and transportation, the work and a feasibility study is being undertaken with the intention of bidding for development monies for the site near the Barry Docks offices in 2010.

Cllr James, who is also chair of Sewta, said: “This is part of a joint vision of both the Vale council and Sewta to encourage greater use of the rail service and reduce car use for commuting purposes. The recent upgrade of the Barry Dock station has resulted in more people being attracted to rail travel, and a park and ride facility is the next step.”
