Children, parents, and grandparents will all be able to enjoy park life at Noddfa in Caernarfon thanks to the generosity of local housing association, Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG) and their contractors.
Located on CCG’s second largest housing estate in Gwynedd, Noddfa community centre is very popular with local tenants and residents of the Maes Barcer estate, Peblig and is home to a number of different clubs, events and preschool groups. So that the hundreds of children and their families that use the centre are able to enjoy the park and green space at Noddfa, CCG and contractors working on the estate have donated and fitted a picnic table and benches.
Raymond Hughes, a Tenant Liaison Officer for CCG working on the estate said; “CCG have been working with our contractors Lovell and G Morris Construction on the Maes Barcer estate improving over 115 of our tenants’ homes over the past four years. As we have been working here for so long we were very keen to give something back to the community. It is also a way for us and our contactors to thank the local tenants and residents for their cooperation and understanding throughout the work.”
The improvements to tenants’ homes by CCG, which includes new kitchens and bathrooms, re-rendering as well as structural work is part of a wider refurbishment programme to bring all of its 6,300 homes up to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard by March 2015.
The benches were donated and positioned by contractors Lovell and G Morris Construction with help from apprentices working on the refurbishment programme overseen by Raymond Hughes and CCG Clerk of Works, Craig Carroll.
Peter Roberton, Site Manager for Lovell, said, “When we work on projects carrying out refurbishment work in homes such as on the Maes Barcer estate, it is important to us as a company to contribute to the wider community ensuring everyone benefits from the work. It is great for us to be able to donate and install the benches at Noddfa, somewhere that plays such a key role within this community.”
As well as giving families a place to relax, sit and chat or have a picnic, CCG has also contributed play equipment to the preschool group so that everyone who uses the centre benefits.
John Heyward from G Morris Construction said; “Working in Maes Barcer for nearly four years means we have got to know a lot of the local residents and we are very happy to be able to donate the benches for the whole community to enjoy.”
Desmond Mullander, Noddfa Chair, said, “I would like to thank CCG and their contractors for the work they have done at the Noddfa centre playground. We hope that the picnic table and bench will allow more parents to make use of the centre’s play area and enjoy valuable family time.”
