Two teams of street dancers from Sir Thomas Picton School in Haverfordwest have qualified to represent Wales in the British Schools Street Dance finals in Stoke later in the year.
The girls, representing Years 7 to 9 and Years 10 to 13, were chosen after participating in the Welsh Street Dance finals in Cardiff recently.
They were among 28 pupils from the secondary school taking part.
Besides the team success, the school had a very successful day all round with placings in the top eight in the Years 7-9 Duo; Years 10-13 Duo and Years 7-9 Quad.
Organised by Sport Pembrokeshire – the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council – the Street Dance Club is part of the 5×60 initiative that aims to encourage more children to take part in extra-curricular activities while getting fit at the same time.
Led by street dance coach, Vicky Tansey, and 5×60 Sport Pembrokeshire officer, Matt Freeman, the club is one of several after-school and lunchtime clubs at Sir Thomas Picton School.
Others include badminton, trampolining, table tennis, golf, tennis, basketball, disability football, wheelchair basketball and boys hockey.
Said Matt: “It was great to see the pupils performing to a really high standard and thoroughly enjoying themselves on the day after all the hard work they had put in over the past seven months.
“Both teams are really excited about the prospect of going on further to represent Wales and will be busy putting together new routines in the forthcoming months.”
The British finals are being held on 21st November.
