Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood is supporting a bid to get more rugby fans cheering on the boys in red in the Welsh language during the World Cup semi-final.
With Wales engulfed in World Cup fever, the website Say Something in Welsh has prepared a special free lesson to enable fans to support Gatland’s heroes in the medium of Welsh. Their aim is to get as many people as possible speaking Welsh when the game kicks off.
As well as phrases to help you praise the team and individual players, the lesson also teaches you how to question the eye-sight of the referee if the game takes a turn for the worse.
To listen to the lesson, as well as the free 26 lesson beginners’ introductory course, simply visit www.SaySomethinginWelsh.com. Stephen Fry recently publicised the website by tweeting it’s address to his three million plus followers.
South Wales Central AM Leanne Wood, who is a patron of Say Something in Welsh, said: “This special rugby lesson is easy to follow and will enable anyone, even if they are complete beginners in the language, to cheer on their team in the medium Welsh by the time of the big kick-off on Saturday.
“Speaking as a learner myself, I can vouch for the effectiveness of the Say Something in Welsh method of teaching the language. With a lot of rugby shown on S4C throughout the season, this lesson will come in handy not just for the World Cup but also for following the regional sides.”
