Plaid AM Backs Cancer Campaign

Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood is backing a fundraising campaign for breast cancer research.

The AM for South Wales Central is calling for as many people in South Wales to wear pink on Friday October 28th and donate £2 to the cause.  Schools, colleges and business throughout Wales are being urged to take part in the ‘Wear it Pink’ event to make it the biggest to date.

Last year hundreds of thousands took part to raise money which will go towards improving survival rates for the 1 in 8 women who will experience breast cancer in their lifetime.

Ms Wood said: “Latest figures suggest that 22,000 women and 150 men alive in Wales have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“There are few families in Wales that have not been touched by breast cancer in some way so I hope as many people as possible do their bit on the last Friday of this month.

“Every pound raised on the day will take us closer to finding more effective ways of combating breast cancer, which is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women.”
