Plaid Cymru AM Leanne Wood, whose South Wales Central regional seat includes Cardiff, said: “This is really desperately sad news for the 87 staff at Maskreys who will now lose their jobs. Any job losses during difficult economic times are a big blow.
“It also means the loss of a traditional family business which has been in existence for more than a century and has built up a loyal customer base.
“Maskreys is sadly the latest major local business to close in Cardiff following the sad demise of the David Morgan family department store a few yeas ago.
“These sorts of businesses should be cherished and nurtured to avoid having identikit cities across the UK where multi-nationals dominate at the expense of local businesses.”
