Plaid AM presses First Minister to meet new Bosch site owners

First Minister Carwyn Jones has pledged to meet Renishaw, which will take over the former Bosch plant at Miskin in October, after being pressed on the issue by Leanne Wood, the Plaid Cymru AM.

Leanne Wood, whose South Wales Central region includes the Miskin area, asked the First Minister in plenary: “What discussions do you plan to have with that firm to encourage and promote the best use of that site, so the most is made of what is an excellent location and the maximum number of people can be employed there?”

Carwyn Jones said that a sign of the skills of the people that worked at Bosch was that many of them had been snapped up by other firms such as Ford at Bridgend.

“I am seeking an early meeting with Renishaw to explore the possibilities for the site because it is well connected and is a prime site for employment.”

Ms Wood, who once worked at the Bosch plant, gave a cautious welcome last month to the news that Bosch had been bought by the Gloucestershire based company.

Five hundred jobs were lost with the closure of Bosch. Renishaw, a leading engineering technologies company, has not yet said how many jobs it will create.
