Plaid Cymru Comments on Unemployment Figures

Job-CentreIn response to today’s unemployment figures which reveal a drop of 0.9%, the Party of Wales Shadow Economy Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth said:

“Any drop in unemployment is to be welcomed, but this decline has been a long time coming. There are still almost 33,000 more people unemployed now than there were before the recession in 2007 and the unemployment rate is still 1.8 percentage points higher now than it was before the recession.

“It is particularly concerning that youth unemployment remains stubbornly high and has jumped up once again. This week Plaid Cymru highlighted figures that showed that the number of long-term young unemployed has quadrupled under this government and today’s figures highlight that once again.

“Youth unemployment is becoming the hallmark of this government and in light of these figures it needs to tell us how it will help the young people of Wales.”
