Plaid Cymru Responseds to Today’s Unemployment Figures

Rhun ap IorwerthIn response to today’s unemployment figures, the Party of Wales Shadow Economy Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth said:

“Any indication that unemployment is falling is very welcome news indeed.

“Plaid Cymru has consistently argued that as signs of improvement emerge all must be done to ensure a balanced economy. In practice that means spreading opportunities beyond the bloated London region, up-skilling our people and ensuring a recovery based on exports.

“We are far from realising this. Unacceptably high levels of youth unemployment in Wales – the highest in the UK – alongside increasing levels of underemployment remind us of the scale of the challenge ahead.

“Long term youth unemployment has soared by 500% under this government and this needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

“Plaid Cymru wants to bring together business, communities and trade unions so we can ensure secure and well-paid employment for the people of Wales.”
