Plaid pledge to speak directly to people on day of first debate stitch-up

Plaid says: “On the day of the first so called ‘Prime Ministerial Debate’ Plaid has pledged to speak directly to the people of Wales and demonstrate its commitment to Welsh communities.

Speaking at the beginning of a full day of specially arranged events across Wales, Director of Elections Helen Mary Jones AM and Plaid’s candidate in Islwyn Steffan Lewis said that Plaid activists are asking members of their communities to reject the ‘Same old parties, same old politics’ of Labour, Conservative and the Lib Dems.

The party also launched its latest advert – highlighting the lack of distinguishable differences between the three London parties. Plaid’s candidate in Islwyn, Steffan Lewis said that people in his community are already fed up of the constant bickering of the London parties during this election campaign, describing it as an attempt to create the impression that they offer something different. He said that in contrast, Plaid’s priorities are clear – protecting the most vulnerable and rebuilding Wales’ economy.

Helen Mary Jones Plaid Cymru’s Director of Elections, Helen Mary Jones AM said:

Plaid’s focus in this election is to speak to as many people in our communities as possible. By doing that we can make sure that our key priorities of rebuilding Wales’ economy and protecting vulnerable people such as pensioners get across. People are fed up with the same old parties and same old politics which have caused the current economic crisis. It’s time for a proper representation for our communities.

“The beginning of the so called Prime Ministerial debates offers us as a party an opportunity to show that we will speak to the people directly and pledge to continue to stand up for their needs if they place their trust in Plaid.”

Plaid Cymru’s candidate for Islwyn, Steffan Lewis, added:

“Time after time, we see the three London parties on TV, bickering with each other in a desperate attempt to create the impression that they offer something different and to hide their planned cuts for the Welsh budget. The fact is that they all represent the same old politics which has let us, the people, down.

“These 3 London parties may succeed in gagging tonight’s audience but they will never succeed in gagging the people of Wales – because whilst the airbrushed three are choosing their ties and practicing their handshakes, Plaid will be out our communities across Wales.

Plaid will be talking about how we think our pensioners need vital help, talking about Wales’s priorities – protecting out hospitals, schools and jobs. Despite the blinkered view of the London media – the people in Wales do have a choice, do have an alternative to the same old politics as usual. Plaid will be talking directly to the people. We’re a party that is different – no rules, no gags.

Plaid candidates like me all over Wales are out knocking doors – showing that we pledge to listen to the people of our communities and stand up for their needs. Our priorities are clear – Plaid will protect our most vulnerable people like pensioners and work to rebuild Wales’ economy.” “
