Police aim to keep Barry Island safe

Police are launching an operation to prevent crime and disorder at Barry Island.

Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to the popular South Wales seaside resort to enjoy the glorious spring sunshine.

The local Neighbourhood Policing Team is working with colleagues from Safer Vale and British Transport Police in order to prevent any potential anti-social behaviour problems and to keep visitors safe.

Sergeant Matthew Rowlands said: “Barry Island is a very popular family resort and we will be working with our partners in Safer Vale and British Transport Police and alongside local businesses to ensure a safe and enjoyable time is had by all.

“We will adopt a firm approach to policing the area and will fully enforce the No Alcohol Zone on the island and will confiscate alcohol being consumed in public.

“We would remind those visitors to the resort from all over South Wales that Barry Island is a popular family oriented resort and we welcome anyone who comes here to enjoy themselves in a reasonable and law abiding manner.

“We are again appealing to parents, not only in Barry, but in the valleys communities who come to visit the Island, to check where their children are going and whether they are carrying alcohol with them. They will be stopped. Any alcohol will be confiscated and any other necessary action will be taken.

Barry Island is a place for all the family and we will keep it that way.”
