Police appeal to trace man in camouflague

Officers are appealing to the public for information following the attempted robbery of a local convenience store in St Mellons, Cardiff.

The incident happened on Wednesday evening at 6.45 ( December 23).

A man walked into the Seaview stores on Newport Road in St Mellons, and demanded money from the till, threatening the shop assistant with a firearm. It is not known whether or not it was an imitation weapon at this stage.

When the suspect was told by the shop assistant there was nothing in the till, he made off in the direction of the community hall which is next to the shop, and up a lane that leads to Elgar Crescent.

The suspect is described as being a white male, about 18 – 25 years-old, with a skinny build. He was wearing a cream and beige camouflage top with a hood that may have a small peak on the front, though he could have been wearing a cap beneath the hood. He was also wearing a black scarf which covered the lower half of his face and wore light denim jeans with what appeared to be writing on the back.

It is believed he had an accomplice waiting for him outside the shop, who ran off towards The Star public house after the incident. There is no description of this male.

Nobody was injured as a result of this incident.

Charlotte Evans, Rumney CID said, “This is an isolated incident and we don’t want the public to be alarmed. We are very keen to trace these two men, so anyone who may have been in the area at this time, who may have noticed anything suspicious, needs to contact Rumney CID on 029 20 774 233 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
