Police helicopter assists Ambulance Service

The North Wales Police helicopter came to the rescue of a man who was suffering chest pains.

The helicopter was deployed at 16.35pm on Saturday, 9 January, as the Welsh Ambulance Service was struggling to get to the remote location in Llandderfel, due to the snow and icy conditions.

Sgt Scott Gallagher said: “Due to the fading light and the difficult terrain, snow, ice and hazards that all this presents – the landing at the location was by far one of the most demanding faced by our Chief Pilot DaveTaylor.”

He added: “The police observer had to walk some distance to the location to provide assistance to the paramedics, who had walked over a mile to tend to the patient.”

The casualty, who was suffering with chest pains was treated at the scene and prepared for the flight to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, where he and the travelling paramedic were safely delivered.

Sgt Gallagher said: “Again as with the landing, the light had now worsened – causing an equal challenge for the pilot to take off, and thereafter transit to the hospital.”

The Welsh Air Ambulance was unable to attend.
