Social media surgeries: help for residents in need of social media guidance

Monmouthshire residents who want to know how to use social media websites like Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and Flickr can register to attend Monmouthshire first social media surgery in Chepstow this month.

The ‘Monmouthshire social media surgeries’ have been initiated by Monmouthshire Council officers to get people online if they want to be more engaged and empowered to create their own online communities.

A social media surgery is an informal event where people who have experience of using social media are brought together with people who want to learn more about how these tools can help them.

Leader of Monmouthshire County Council, Peter Fox, said:

“I have recently started to engage with residents using Twitter and I think social media is a great way for anyone to connect and share their views on all kind of subjects.

“Getting started can be daunting though and these surgeries will help residents or community groups to take the first steps into this exciting world.

“Some very talented people who are very well respected in the social media world have offered to give up their time for free so it’s well worth a visit to learn some skills from them.

“Even if you already have some experience of social media but want to take it to the next level, come along with your specific challenge and we’ll match you up to some leading edge social media experts.

“The social media experts will bring their own laptops so attendees need only register and turn up.”

The first social media surgery will take place on November 30th from 7pm – 9pm in the Limetree Café Bar in Chepstow.
