Aberavon edged out Carmarthen Quins this weekend in an eight-try thriller.
Wing Richard Carter raced over for the Wizards, followed by lock Nathan Strong, centre Liam Gadd and flanker Chris Davies, with kicker Matthew Jarvis nailing all four conversions as well as five penalties and a drop goal to take their total for the game to 46.
But the Quins were hot on their tail, with full-back James Stephenson touching down twice. Prop Ian Jones and flanker James Davies smashed through, but even with four penalties and four conversions from Stephenson, they could not achieve victory in this fiery 46-40 encounter.
Neath were made to work hard for their victory against struggling Glamorgan Wanderers but they top the table after a high-scoring game at The Gnoll.
Winger Alec Jenkins outpaced the Wanderers defence for the first try, while a brace by fly-half James Thomas furthered Neath’s lead. Full-back Gareth King grabbed the fourth before a penalty try took Neath’s total to five tries.
The Wanderers put in a valiant effort, with Ed Morris, Dan Crimmins, Joe Xiberras and Rory Budina all insuring that they gained at least two bonus points against the Welsh All-Blacks.
The 41-35 win puts Neath in first position with Pontypridd having been involved in British & Irish Cup action at the weekend.
Bedwas ran out the winners in a mid-table clash at the Bridge Field, beating 11th placed Pontypool 32-19.
Prop Matthew Petit edged over to give the home side the lead and No8 Deri Mattraven furthered Pooler’s woe with a nicely-worked try. Finally, full-back Stuart Thomas took them to victory converting both tries and putting away six penalties.
Tonmawr recorded their seventh win of the season with a 26-22 win over Swansea.
The Pitmen charged over twice, with the tries coming from back-row Craig Price and winger Kristian Phillips.
The All-Whites pushed for the win, with Matthew Morgan leading the drive from fly-half. Morgan managed to score twice, as well as converting two tries and slotting a penalty, but it was not enough to stop a Tonmawr triumph.
Llandovery and Llanelli are set to show down on Tuesday night.
