Swansea Council is delivering on its promise to invest in the future of education in our city.
The former Llanmorlais Primary School site is going on the market and the Council will invest the proceeds of the sale back into education as part of its QEd (Quality in Education) 2020 strategy.
The QEd 2020 strategy seeks to boost educational standards, make the best use of resources, enhance the quality of Swansea’s learning environments and reduce surplus places to ensure budgets are spent on pupils rather than wasted on empty desks.
Delivering on the long-term vision for learners has led to school closures or mergers, either to create all-through primary education in line with Council policy or to move towards a more sustainable future for schools in the area.
Cllr Mike Day, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “The Council is delivering on its commitment to invest the proceeds from the sale of school buildings back into education.
“The decision to sell the Llanmorlais site is not going to affect the Council’s commitment to meeting the increasing demand for Welsh medium education in Swansea.
“Dealing with this issue is part of the QEd 2020 stratagy for raising standards, making better use of resources and improving the quality of learning for both Welsh and English medium education in the city.”
The site area is approximately 0.3 hectares (0.75 acres). Any proposal by interested parties would need to demonstrate that it’s beneficial for the community and boosts rural economic diversity such as rural business enterprises or sustainable tourism.
